In addition to his successful work as a singer/songwriter/producer on the London music scene, DJH has taken the recent move into film & TV scoring in his stride, taking on the roll of composer for his first feature, Evans Baby (2011). With the films urban realism, the score called for a variety of sounds, from sombre piano and strings, to dubstep influenced beats and intense soundscapes, allowing David the chance to showcase his unique versatility as a composer/arranger.
David has also been busy working on tracks for Three Days In Dublin (2011), directed by Beth Lauren for Freyja Films. In addition to writing some key tracks, he has also taken up acting duties, and is set to appear alongside Ray Winston and Heather Graham in the movie playing "Dara", where he will be showing off his skills as an actor, as well a musician and singer.
Previous TV credits include ITV's "Echo Beach" (2008) where his music was featured.
Following 2008's critically acclaimed EP The Life & Times Of the Man With No Name, David is currently working on his debut album Vive La Rose, as well as penning his first full script. Since moving to London, David has been busy playing a number of high profile venues such as the legendary 100 Club, as well as supporting artists such as Corinne Bailey Rae. In addition, he has recently recorded guitar for Yorkshire songsmith Padraig Whelan's debut album Never Be So Wicked, No More Than You Once Were (2011).
Other previous projects have included hosting live music and club nights in Edinburgh and London, and starting up his own independent record label One Three Five Records for limited releases. Picking up rave reviews from both local and national press in the UK, and moving into music for TV & Film he is fast cementing his reputation as…
“ a Troubadour with a future”
- (Daily Record)
"Can grind out a song as though he's been a hobo trailing the Mississippi Delta for 20 years!"
Press release: "The Life And Times Of The Man With No Name"
"David James Herbert's songs are big in many ways. His voice is direct and unmissable, his well-hewn tunes are quick to lodge in your mind and then there's that undeniably celtic sense of scale that defines a track like Icebergs. But Herbert is no straightforward heartfelt troubadour. Coffee In St Pauls is a delicately crafted ballad for the small hours, The Life and Times Of The Man With No Name is the kind of rockabilly polka that Sons and Daughters might have written, Born Again Hooligan is driven like an in-form Oasis belter and She Is On My Mind is a miniature lament that layers jagged electric guitars over folk guitar and piano. A big sound that doesn't deny subtlety or scrimp on the detail"
