Press Release Brian Bennett to release special commemorative CD edition - Works
To mark The Shadows’ farewell UK and European tour, as well as his recent OBE for outstanding contributions to music over four decades, Triple Ivor Novello Award-winning drummer-composer Brian Bennett is re-issuing some of his very finest solo compositions on CD. It was back in 1961 that Brian joined The Shadows alongside Bruce Welch and Hank Marvin. Their unique sound captured the hearts of millions with a string of instrumental hits, as well as enjoying innumerable chart successes as Cliff Richard’s backing group. During this halcyon period, Brian co-wrote a number of their biggest hits, including ‘In the Country’ and ‘Summer Holiday’. When The Shadows officially split at the end of the 60s, Brian moved into session work with such diverse talents as Ella Fitzgerald, Richard Harris, The Walker Brothers and Olivia Newton-John. He also began a career composing TV and film music that has seen him amass nearly 100 music albums. Among his most popular TV themes are ‘The Ruth Rendell Mysteries’, ‘The Knock’, ‘Murder in Mind’ and the classic theme for BBC’s golf coverage.
These highly collectable signed copies will be available only on The Shadows’ 2005 International tour (NIA Birmingham 14th and 15th May), or from Leo’s Den at www.leosden.co.uk. or Cube Soundtracks at www.cubesoundtracks.co.uk In addition, Brian is specially promoting two of his most acclaimed albums
to date. First is ‘Music to Picture’ (FLYCUB20108),
an unforgettable compilation album, featuring no fewer than 25 film and
television themes, including the Inspector Wexford Theme,
music from Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’
and 'Chase Side Shoot-Up' (better known as the long-running
signature BBC Golf theme). It’s a stunning collection
that encapsulates one of the most outstanding creative talents on the
current music scene. The second is his stunning soundtrack to the film
‘The American Way’ (aka ‘Riders of
the Storm’, FLYCUB20109), the cult, savage comedy starring Dennis
Hopper and Michael J Pollard, featuring a group of disenchanted Vietnam
veterans determined to prevent at all costs the election of a pro-nuclear,
militaristic politician running for Senate.
