"Barrington's score for Shopgirl added a lush layer on top of our film. His compositions are simultaneously thought-provoking and incredibly emotional. Given that our movie was about the complications and comfort of love, it was essential that our score capture the myriad nuances of that - all while subtly building to a powerfully moving resolution. Barrington gave us all that and more"

"Music was a key component in imagining and realising Shopgirl. I imagined the movie as a symphony, five musical movements that expressed Mirabelle's journey. This approach informed all of the subsequent decisions about Production Design, Camerawork etc. Because of my longstanding and extremely close relationship with Barrington, I knew that this was achievable. We had many discussions, and my choice of temp music allied to using previous bits and pieces of Barrington's stuff meant that when we came to compose the score for the film, the pictures were there ready and waiting for his notes. The film only really lived when graced with what was Mirabelle's interior world, as expressed by Barrington"
Anand Tucker (Director)

"The music for SHOPGIRL is structured on a trichotomy: of body, soul & spirit; also of lust, searching & love - even sophistication, innocence & growing. Clare Danes' "Mirabelle"
is so beautifully studied and sympathetically portrayed, that for me musically it was a joy to follow her journey.
Anand called our concept "La Ronde"; a triangular dance of great contrasts - quirky, strange, beautiful, exciting, but most of all searching for real love, which is "growing-up". In the end, "discovering love" - was a beautiful and easy inspiration. My baby girl Adel was born just as I started to write this score, no shortage of inspiration there."
